About TRAILSIDE TABLE

I didn’t set out to become a cast iron nerd—but I love campfire cooking. After years of camp cooking and later living on the road, I had to learn the hard way. I’ve burned food onto pans, scrubbed off seasoning I meant to keep, and nearly gave up on cast iron altogether. Sound familiar?

I started Trailside Table after years of learning cast iron care the hard way. I now make and source tools I trust to keep cast iron care simple, sustainable, and stress-free.

So, let’s dig in. What do you struggle with the most?

Seasoning

Seasoning your cast iron correctly is key to building a natural, non-stick surface that improves with each use. Done right, it helps prevent rust and ensures better cooking results, whether you're searing a steak or making pancakes. Not getting it right can lead to sticky or uneven seasoning that affects performance. Our balm is designed to provide a thin, even coat of seasoning each time.

Scrubbing

When it comes to cleaning cast iron the right scrubber is essential. It’s important to remove food and residue without damaging the pan's protective layer, which is crucial for maintaining that non-stick surface. Using a chainmail scrubber on particularly stubborn messes gives you a durable, effective way to scrub off stuck food without damaging your hard-earned seasoning layer.

Cleaning/Conditioning

Our conditioning scrub is perfect for everyday cleaning of your cast iron. It effectively removes remaining food particles while helping to maintain and improve your seasoning. Plus, it can tackle light surface rust, restoring your cookware without compromising the protective layer. It’s an essential tool for keeping your cast iron in great shape, ready for your next meal.

Storage

Discovering rust on your infrequently used pieces can be devastating. Storage wax provides an extra protective layer to prevent rust and preserve seasoning for your cast iron and carbon steel cookware when not in use. Ideal for long-term storage, particularly in humid environments, it keeps your cookware in top condition during off-season or between uses.
